Any product available in the marketplace-especially products that people consume or come into direct contact with-must be determined to be safe and must be regulated by the appropriate agencies. Although biotech foods have been studied and reviewed extensively, the issues surrounding them involve a complex mix of science, politics, and emotion, thus making it particularly challenging to satisfy the critics. Safety evaluations, part of the overall development process, are critical for ensuring the success of any new biotech product in the marketplace. |
